His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police say “a number of people” had been at the park at the time but fled before officers arrived.

An investigation involving child protection officers was launched before a 16-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday evening.

It is alleged the boy is known to the victim.

He has been charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear before Brisbane Children’s Court.

The victim’s school has written to parents, acknowledging “one of our students was harmed” in the park incident.

The principal informed parents the alleged attack took place in front of other students.

“This incident was witnessed by a number of students and we have counselling services in place for anyone who needs support,” the letter reads.

“I would like to assure you that the student is receiving care and being well supported.

“Please understand that we must respect the privacy of the student and their family at this time and so we cannot provide further details.”
