Body language expert on ‘unusual’ Harry and Meghan detail amid ‘split’ furore

A body language expert has weighed in on an “unusual” detail about Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as the duo made their first public appearance in months.

The couple appeared all smiles in a new video, as they announced a series of grants to fund online safety projects for young people, as part of their Archewell Foundation.

The footage showed them poring over a phone as they spoke to the recipients of the first Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund (RTYPF) grants.

“Thank you for doing everything that you do. Our kids especially are incredibly grateful,” Harry was heard saying to one recipient.

Appearing on The Morning Show on Thursday, Entertainment Editor Peter Ford revealed how a body language expert had exposed an “unusual” detail in the footage – which was released amid rumours the couple had been “spending time apart”.

The Sussexes have denied reports of a split, telling Page Six the speculation was “not true” and “literally made up”.

“They’re back, that’s for sure,” Ford told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies of Harry and Meghan’s new appearance.

“They haven’t actually been out doing stuff since that ill-fated night in New York with the supposed ‘near-catastrophic’ car chase through the streets – which never happened, not like it was described,” he said.

“They went quiet after that – particularly Meghan.”

Ford said the couple was now part of an “initiative to give grants to various activist groups who are trying to protect kids from online bullying”.

“A good cause – no one’s going to deny that,” Ford said.

“They filmed all this and they say these were surprise calls, but I can’t help but feel there was a level of vetting before the calls took place.

“The obvious reaction to this is to call in the body language experts, isn’t it, so they’ve already been on the job and they are pointing out various things.

“Most notably, they’re pointing out that Meghan doesn’t look at Harry at all during this whole thing. At one point she’s basically staring at the phone.”

Indeed, body language expert Judi James went into more detail in an interview Britain’s Express newspaper, telling the publication that the video marked an “evolution” of their relationship.

“(Harry) leans his head towards Meghan to suggest shared thought and his eyes do seem to be aimed at her as he is talking a couple of times,” the expert said.

“But the phone placement creates a bit of a bolster effect between them and we aren’t treated to any of their signature touch rituals in these clips, or, unusually, any of Meghan’s adoring gazes and eye contact.

“Their focus seems to be the callers as they hunch face-to-face in what looks like excitement.

“Happy then; still keen and still charmed by and charming towards the young people they encourage and endorse, and still presenting as a double act seems to be the message, only maybe without any distracting tie-signs here,” James added.

‘Bit rough’

But Kylie Gillies weighed in to defend the Duchess of Sussex on Thursday, telling Peter Ford and co-host Larry that she wouldn’t “look into her husband’s eyes” when on a phone call as Harry and Meghan were.

“I just think that’s a bit rough,” the host said.

Ford replied: “You’re defending them, I know. I’m just telling you what the body language experts are saying.”
