BMW’s new G90-generation M5 will make its North American debut during Monterey Car Week next month, and the company will be auctioning off the very first production unit with the help of Gooding & Company. Called the M5 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance #1/1, this special M5 is painted in a color that no other M5 buyer will be able to choose, because it already has been discontinued by the factory.

The color in question is called BMW Individual Frozen Orange Metallic, a shade that has been found on a few examples of the late-2010’s BMW M6 and the current M3 and M4. BMW says the matte orange shade was already scheduled to be removed from the Dingolfing plant’s lineup before the start of new M5 production, so the Pebble Beach car’s body was painted weeks in advance. The intricate wheels also have hand-painted orange accents.

On the inside, the Pebble Beach M5 has a combination of Kyalami Orange and Silverstone grey leather, a combination that won’t be offered on normal M5s. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance logo is printed on the headrests, used in the illuminated door sills and engraved into the silver-threaded carbon-fiber dashboard trim. This special M5 has more than $57,000 in bespoke options, according to BMW, and it comes with pretty much every possible feature and package.

Gooding will be auctioning off the Pebble Beach M5 on Friday, August 16, with no reserve set on the auction. Gooding has an estimate of $150,000 to $200,000, but given all proceeds will go to charity — the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, which supports local education programs for disadvantaged youth — I’m sure the hammer price will be even higher.

The car will be handed over to the winner in October 2024, and it’ll be the first new M5 to get delivered in North America. Despite its specialness, this one-off M5 sedan will likely get overshadowed by another BMW debuting at Car Week: The M5 Touring, which will be the first M5 wagon sold in the U.S., will make its global premiere during the festivities.
