Blue Jays open penultimate series of season: Can Guerrero grab batting title?

Chris Bassitt heads to the hill Monday night as the Toronto Blue Jays begin their final week of the season against the Boston Red Sox.

Watch live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.

The Blue Jays (73-83) return home looking to bounce back from a three-game sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. batted 3-for-5 and picked up his team-leading 100th RBI during Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Rays.

Guerrero is now hitting .324 on the season and is just seven points back of the Kansas City Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. in the race for the AL batting title.

Bassitt (10-13, 4.16 ERA) is coming off a tough outing against the Rangers last week. The veteran lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs — though only one of them was earned — on six hits, while walking three batters.

The Red Sox will counter with right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck (8-10, 3.21 ERA).

The Jays will close out their season on the weekend against the Marlins.
