Bloomberg founder and former mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg announced his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in a Thursday opinion article.
Despite disagreeing with Harris on certain issues, Bloomberg said he “voted for her without hesitation.” He then detailed the differences between the two major presidential candidates on topics including abortion, immigration and the economy.
Bloomberg denounced former President Donald Trump’s politics and “reckless” time in office, claiming that he “coddled White supremacists” and made the country “look like a banana republic.”
Pointing to the Jan. 6 Capitol Insurrection, the 82-year-old argued that “nothing — not America, not our Constitution, not democracy, not the rule of law, not the lives of police officers or any other citizen — matters more than [Trump’s] own vanity and glory.”
Bloomberg, who has become a major Harris donor, claimed he does not know Harris well but has been impressed by her campaign.
The three-term New York mayor registered as a Democrat in 2018 and said in his opinion piece that he has previously voted for both parties.
However, he added that Harris “is determined to lead our nation forward, and she understands that the only way to do that is by bringing people back together.”
“And that’s why I hope undecided voters of all political stripes will join me in voting for Kamala Harris for president,” Bloomberg concluded.
Bloomberg’s endorsement comes after The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times declined to endorse either candidate, leading to backlash and fallout.

Bloomberg and Trump, who both ran for the presidency in 2020, have previously exchanged insults. Trump has repeatedly made fun of Bloomberg’s height and called him “a LOSER who has money but can’t debate and has zero presence, you will see.”
Bloomberg said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that the two “know many of the same people in NY.”
“Behind your back they laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown,” Bloomberg added. “They know you inherited a fortune & squandered it with stupid deals and incompetence. I have the record & the resources to defeat you. And I will.”
