Block deals worth over Rs 16,400 crore this week. DMart, HDFC Bank among stocks with major action

While Nifty ended with a week-on-week decline of 0.20%, it was laden with top action where over three dozen companies from large, mid and smallcap segments witnessed prominent block deals worth Rs 16,445 crore on screen which included both buying and selling action.

In the large cap segment, 15 companies witnessed significant block deals on the screen which were worth Rs 5,902 crore led by HDFC Bank with 12 block counts totalling to Rs 1,821 crore. The next in line were Axis Bank (547 crore), State Bank of India (SBI, Rs 545 crore), Avenue Supermarts (DMart, 417 crore), Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M, Rs 393 crore), ITC (Rs 374 crore) and Zomato (Rs 373 crore).

Others were, namely Eicher Motors, Jindal Steel, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid Corporation, Reliance Industries (RIL), Godrej Consumer Products, HCL Technologies and Hindustan Unilever (HUL) with block deals between Rs 220 crore and Rs 147 crore.

The data has been compiled by brokerage firm Nuvama and pertains to deals done this week between 8:45 am and 3:30 pm.

In the midcap segment, a dozen companies witnessed prominent block deals on the screen which were worth Rs 2,505 crore. The leader in the pack was Shriram Finance with the deal size amounting to Rs 347 crore followed by PB Fintech (Policybazaar, Rs 311 crore), HDFC AMC (Rs 267 crore) and Engineering (Rs 257 crore). The others were GMR Airports Infrastructure, AIA Engineering Max Healthcare, Delhivery, Ipca Labs, ZF Commercial, NHPC, Crompton Greaves and Bandhan Bank which saw deals between Rs 242 crore and 136 crore.

Shriram Finance is now a Nifty50 company but Nuvama has considered it as a midcap counter.

As for the smallcap stocks, block deals worth Rs 8,038 crore were struck in 12 companies. The number one spot went to Sanofi (Rs 7,124 crore) followed by Suzlon Energy (Rs 176 crore) and Brigade ENterprises (Rs 162 crore). The others were PNB Housing Finance, GE T&D India, Ganesh Housing, Kalpataru Projects, Honasa Consumer, Gujarat State Petronet, CIE Automotive, Suven Pharma and Westlife Food which saw deals between Rs 155 crore and 33 crore.

Nuvama also reported prominent bulk, block and insider deals in 14 stocks with details of buyers and sellers. Among them were IDFC where UBS Principal Capital bought shares worth Rs 88 crore. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs sold ideaForge shares worth Rs 43 crore via block deal while Citi was buyer at Rs 44 crore.

Sanofi Healthcare India, Jyoti Structures, Heubach Colorant, Parag Milk Foods and Kamdhenu Ventures were others which saw prominent bulk, block and insider deals with details of buyers and sellers.
