Blake Lively Makes Her Signature Key Lime Pie—And Talks Playing Lily Bloom in It Ends With Us

“This is the most chaotic recipe,” Blake Lively says, laughing, as she begins to make her key lime pie. The actor—and Vogue’s September issue cover star—explains that she doesn’t exactly follow any set measurements or instructions while making the quintessential summer dessert. Instead, she just kinda eyeballs it. “I would love to tell you the amount and the quantity I use for my recipe… but it’s really to taste!” She says. (Spoiler alert: it works, with the pie coming near picture-perfect out of the oven.)

It’s a recipe that was originally passed down by her mother. Over the years, Lively has put her own spin on it, but the signature ingredients more or less stay the same—including the copious amount of Cool Whip: “I don’t know what Cool Whip is. I am not going to question it. It’s a genius invention,” says Lively.

While baking, Lively also talks about her highly anticipated movie, It Ends With Us. She plays the lead role of Lily Bloom—a compassionate yet bold young woman navigating the difficulties of love amid her own trauma. The film is based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name, which has sold millions of copies since publishing in 2016.

Lively says it was the most all-consuming project she’s been a part of due to the dedicated fanbase. “The book Colleen wrote resonated with so many people for so many years,” she says. “It was a great responsibility that I didn’t take lightly.” She also touches on her costumes in the film, which she describes as “so expressive and so eclectic,” spanning everything from Bode to vintage pieces. “It’s some of my favorite wardrobe I’ve ever worn,” Lively says.

Below, watch Lively share her recipe for Key Lime Pie as well as boozy lemonades made with Betty Buzz lemon lime club sodas.
