“I went into that surgery early in the morning and I went in after I found out that my marriage was essentially over, that my husband had been carrying on an affair for two years,” she said on her podcast Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty.
“To not go in that surgery — even though, being very clear, he wanted to go — I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there.
“I felt so betrayed.
“At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years, by someone I loved with all my heart.
“Just to have to go through all of that while trying to figure out if you’re going to get a f****** divorce and trying to get to the truth of that.”
Doherty and Iswarienko, a photographer, separated in January 2023 and the former Beverly Hills 90210 actress filed for divorce in April.
“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option,” Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane said.
At the time, the actress shared a cryptic message to Instagram a few hours before the news broke.
“The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and total respect,” she said.
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
Two years later, she announced she was in remission.
But in 2020, the actress revealed the cancer had returned as stage four.
A year later, she told PEOPLE that cancer was “a part of life at this point”.
“I feel like I have a responsibility in my more public life … to talk about cancer and perhaps educate people more and let people know that people with stage four are very much alive and very active,” she said at the time.
“My husband says that you would never know that I have cancer,” she continued, referring to Iswarienko, whom she married in 2011.
“I never really complain.”
In October 2021, she uploaded photographs showing the effects of chemotherapy treatment.
“For breast cancer awareness month, I’d like to share more of my own personal journey from my first diagnosis to my second,” she wrote.
“Is it all pretty?
“NO, but it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like.”
On what her biggest wish was, she said: “I’m very much like, there’s no bucket list because I’m going to be the longest-living person with cancer.”
“If I had to say one, it would just be living,” she added.
“That’s the only thing on my list at this point.”
