Best two-in-one oil and milky cleanser from Fig.1 removes makeup, sunscreen and debris in minutes

As a beauty writer for the better part of a decade, there isn’t a cleanser I haven’t tried — or at least heard about — through the course of the job.

I’ve been a big fan of double cleansing in particular over the past few years and I religiously stock up on pots such as SumaNurica’s Purifying Enzyme Cleansing Balm ($109) followed by a light gel-like cleanser like Naturium’s Niacinamide Cleansing Gelée ($98.90 on Amazon Australia) because their combined gentleness works on my compromised skin.

But last week I met with Fig. 1 Skincare co-founder Dr Courtney Rubin, a board-certified dermatologist with a profound understanding of skin health, and learnt more about her Micellar Oil Cleanser ($37).

Instead of having a two-step routine, Rubin’s cleanser is an oil-based makeup and sunscreen remover that transitions to a milky cleanser when it comes in contact with water.

She uses it every evening to remove stubborn makeup without disrupting her fragile skin barrier, and after seeing it in person I was all but ready to walk out the door with one.

“It contains grapeseed oil which is nutrient-rich and packed with antioxidants with added squalane to deeply hydrate and condition the skin,” Rubin told Best Picks.

“It’s refillable too, so you can save money the next time you purchase.”

Fig.1 Skincare is working to bring efficacious skincare to the masses with its fair price point, so you don’t have to miss out on actives such as retinol and vitamin C just because you’re on a budget.

It has also been developed by a range of medical professionals, so you can trust that what you’re getting will actually do what it says on the tin.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, Kerry Washington and Australian ambassadors such as Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt are all big fans of the brand and the cleanser is one of its best-selling products.

“I love this cleanser, I use it in the morning and at night. It leaves my face feeling so clean while also being gentle and not drying my skin out,” a MECCA customer wrote online after testing it out.

“This is a great product, it easily gets rid of all makeup including mascara, leaves skin feeling soft and clean without being tight or dry. Love it,” said another.

A third added: “This item is always a repurchase for me. It helps take off my makeup but leaves my skin hydrated”.
