Best art is what you ‘truly love’: Here’s how you could nab Australia Archibald Prize winner’s piece for just $100

For art buffs, getting your hands on a prize piece of art without even realising it is the stuff of dreams.

But now, this could be your reality.

A new initiative, called the Incognito Art Show, is selling pieces of artwork online for $100 a pop.

To buy something, you simply choose the art you love, pay $100 and you only get to find out who the artist is after buying it.

The Incognito Art Show includes more than 1,500 priceless pieces of work from dozens of high-profile artists.

Big names include several Archibald Prize 2023 finalists including Laura Jones, Eliza Gosse and Abdul Abdullah, and three Wynne 2023 finalists including art names like Joan Ross, Miranda Hine and Jason Phu.

Art lovers could also get their hands on Sulman Prize 2023 finalists’ work from the likes of Marisa Purcell and Jessica Northdurft.

One of the main aims of the Incognito Art Show is to democratise buying art and let people buy “what they truly love”, rather than a “big name”.

“Some 2,000 pieces sold in the in-person sale which was a great success, but now the work begins,” Incognito Art Show co-founder Ed Liston says.

Incognito has grown to such a scale that our online sale is the biggest element to the show.

“We’ll be hoping to sell out and encourage all art lovers from around Australia to get on the website and start buying!”

Profits from the show’s sale will be donated to Studio A and Little Orange Studio (Campbelltown Art Centre); two arts companies supporting artists with disability.

All of the artworks are A5 in size, and you can choose whether you buy them unframed ($100) or framed. Credit: Supplied

All of the artworks are A5 in size, and you can choose whether you buy them unframed ($100) or add one of four frames to your piece.

The artwork varies from bright and fun prints to black and white sketches.

There is no limit to the number of artworks you buy. Domestic shipping costs $9.50, but international shipping costs more.

The show’s unique model aims to provide greater access to art-buying for those without the usual means to do so, as well as democratising art selection; buyers buy what they truly love, not a big name.
