Several heavily armed officers descended on a home in the southeast area of Barrie Thursday afternoon after reports of a man armed with a crossbow.
According to police, the accused was arrested after an altercation involving the owner of a stolen snowmobile, who claims to have spotted his sled posted for sale on social media.
Police say the owner called police and then waited outside the seller’s home in the area of Seline Crescent and Mapleview Drive East for officers to arrive.
They allege a man came out of the house and pointed a crossbow at the snowmobile owner.
Multiple officers swarmed the area, taking the accused into custody without incident.
Authorities obtained a search warrant and entered the property shortly after midnight, allegedly finding a snowmobile that had been previously reported stolen during a break-in.
Police say they also located a crossbow believed to have been used in the earlier confrontation.
A 31-year-old Barrie man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
No injuries were reported.
