bangladesh viral video: Liton Das, Bangladesh cricketer’, house set on fire by protesters? Here is the truth behind viral videos

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday, fleeing the country following widespread violent protests. The unrest, which began as demonstrations against job quotas, escalated into a movement resulting in hundreds of deaths due to security force crackdowns. In a televised statement, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the formation of an interim government after Hasina’s resignation. The continued protests have raised concerns about potential violence against minorities.

Bangladesh Cricketer Liton Das’ home set on fire?

Amid violent protests and reports of arson across Bangladesh, tweets about the alleged burning of Hindu houses and temples started floating around on social media. Among those tweets, several social media users also claimed that Bangladesh cricket team player Liton Das’s home was burnt by protesters. However, the information was found to be false. After Hasina fled, social media posts falsely claimed that cricketer Liton Das’s house was set on fire by protesters. Das, a Bengali Hindu, has represented Bangladesh in international cricket for years.

Contrary to the viral claims, the house set on fire reportedly belonged to former cricket captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who is an MP with Hasina’s Awami League. Protestors also targeted homes of other Awami League leaders.
