Baldur’s Gate 3 update – Larian gives fans the news they’ve been waiting for | Gaming | Entertainment

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are counting down to the release of a big new update. According to developer Larian, the next major update will lay the foundations for official mod support in Baldur’s Gate 3. Better yet, modding will be supported across all platforms, letting users modify things like classes, UI, customisation, spells, assets and game mechanics. Fans should see the initial stages of official mod support with the release of Patch 7, which will launch in the next few months.

Larian head of publishing Michael Douse explained more in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “We generally don’t talk about things til they’re ready, but as you may have read, we’re making an exception.

“We’ve been working on a robust, cross-platform plan for mod support to be released later in [the] year. We love our modding community and we want to support them. It’s coming.”

In a follow-up tweet, Douse said that the system is in the testing stages and needs a little work before it will be available to the public.

More information was shared on Discord, where the studio confirmed plans to form a team to curate mods. Larian is also working with the modding community to ensure things run smoothly.

“As this is no small task, we hope to introduce the initial stages of modding support in our next big patch, which is still several months away,” Larian continues.

“Frustrated as you might be now, we’re keen to work with you on this – and have plans to reach out to popular mod authors to talk further and work together to avoid issues in the future.”

While mods are already available for Baldur’s Gate 3, the lack of official support means they don’t always work following the release of a new hotfix or update.

With official backing across all platforms, fans can expect smoother implementation and a more stable experience.

Likewise, without any current plans for DLC, the release of new mods will continue to expand the game and keep players engaged.

The thought of new fan-made scenarios, upgraded visuals and other gameplay tweaks is an exciting prospect for a game that has sold more than 10 million units across all platforms.
