As Robert Downey Jr returns to the MCU as Doctor Doom, Marvel fans are getting very excited for Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars.
The multiverse crossover will no doubt feature several epic variants and according to a new leak, there’s a megastar being sought to play an alternate version of Iron Man.
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello: “They are trying (again) to get Tom Cruise as an Iron Man variant for the Avengers films.”
Not only would this be one of the MCU’s biggest cameos ever but there is a reason behind it.
Back in 1998, the Top Gun and Mission Impossible star almost starred as Tony Stark in an Iron Man movie.
During production on 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there were rumours that Cruise’s Superior Iron Man would show up in the movie.
Screenwriter Michael Waldron expressed interest in the idea but it turns out Cruise was never approached for a cameo in the end.
The reason being that he was busy shooting Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and its sequel.
Whatever the case, Cruise’s Iron Man finally showing up in Doomsday or Secret Wars (or both!) would be mind-blowing for fans.
Since Robert Downey Jr is playing Doctor Doom, having the pair go up against each other would be epic.
Avengers Doomsday hits cinemas in May 2026 and will be followed by Avengers Secret Wars in May 2027.
