Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo dropped by Red Bull Racing for Liam Lawson

Daniel Ricciardo’s distinguished career as a Formula One racer looks over following the popular Australian’s release by Red Bull Racing.

The 35-year-old eight-time race winner had felt the Singapore Grand Prix last weekend would be his final race.

That was effectively confirmed by his RB team giving his car a fresh set of tyres so he could go out and set the fastest lap of the race as his final hurrah. He did just that.

The Italy-based team posted a thank you message on X on Thursday, saying Ricciardo would be missed “but will always hold a special place within the Red Bull family”.

New Zealander Liam Lawson is expected to replace Ricciardo for the final six races of the season.

In a statement, Ricciardo said it had “been a journey”.

“I’ve loved this sport my whole life. It’s wild and wonderful,” he said.

“To the teams and individuals that have played their part, thank you.

“To the fans who love the sport sometimes more than me haha thank you.

“It’ll always have its highs and lows but it’s been fun and truth be told I wouldn’t change it.

“Until the next adventure.”

Ricciardo had 14 seasons in F1, with the last of his eight wins coming at Monza in 2021 when he won the Italian Grand Prix during his otherwise underwhelming spell at McLaren.

But he left McLaren after the 2022 season, when he was replaced by fellow Australian Oscar Piastri, and has since been consistently outdriven at RB by his Japanese teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
