Aussie man Matthew Borromei killed in holiday accident remembered

A Western Australian man killed in a scooter accident in Italy has been identified as 25-year-old Matthew Borromei.

The 25-year-old lost control of his scooter and crashed into a cement pillar in the Sicilian town of Taormina on Wednesday, local media reported.

He died at the scene.

Borromei’s family and friends paid tribute to him on social media.

His father Rino Borromei said in a post, “Mum and I love you so much…Miss you. Forever in our hearts and thoughts.”

Borromei’s local sporting club, Railways Football Club Kalgoorlie, described him as having a “zest for life” in a Facebook post

“Sadly Matt lost his life whilst touring in Italy, and he will be greatly missed by many for his energy, smile and zest for life,” the post said.

“This is a very difficult write with Matt (being) so loved by all, and words genuinely fail in this moment.”

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said it is providing consular assistance to Borromei’s family.

“We send our deepest condolences to the man’s family,” the spokesperson said.
