A tech enthusiast has warned about the dangers of charging your iPhone while you sleep — particularly charging it in your bed.
Scott Polderman has urged everyone to avoid charging phones under their pillows when it’s connected to a power source, saying it could result in fire, electric shock, injury or damage to the device.

According to Apple, you must keep your iPhone, cable and power adapter in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging, and not charge it for extended periods of time.
“Apple has issued a warning on charging your iPhone overnight,” Polderman explained in a now viral-video.
The American tech expert said the warning caught his attention because he had a habit of charging his phone overnight.
“I think most people do too,” he said.
“The concern is actually where the phone is at when it is charging.
“If you have the phone next to the bed plugged in, and you fall asleep and it is under the cover or ends up under your pillow and it can’t get ventilation, that’s when it can cause injury.”
Scott says the second warning is about the charging cable, and that you do not want to have prolonged skin contact with the cord especially when you’re sleeping.
“The bottom line is, you want to make sure your phone is not in bed with you,” he said.
Apple warns users against prolonged skin contact with the charging cable and connector when the cable is connected to a power source.
“Sleeping or sitting on the charging cable or connector should be avoided,” the company said on its website.
“Use common sense to avoid situations where your skin is in contact with a device, its power adapter, or a wireless charger when it’s operating or connected to a power source for long periods of time.”
Apple specifically says “do not sleep on a device, power adapter or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow or your body when it’s connected to a power source”.
Scott’s video has had more than 1.4 million views and people have shared their stories of what happened when they slept with their iPhone.
“I’ve had a second-degree burn with my pants on, after I fell asleep with my MacBook on my bed,” one claimed.
Another said: “I nearly set my bed on fire, I have a huge burn on my arm by falling asleep on my phone”.
A third wrote: “I accidentally left mine in my bed the other night and woke up three hours later and it was like a branding iron”.
