Anthony Albanese confirms wedding to Jodie Haydon won’t be held until after next federal election

The prime minister and his fiancée Jodie Haydon will hold their wedding after the next federal election, with the ceremony likely to be in late 2025.

Speaking to ABC Radio Perth, Anthony Albanese confirmed the plans, saying he wants to focus on the job at hand.

“We looked at the diary and there are no gaps between now and the end of the year,” he said.

“It will be some time, likely in the second half of next year, but it will be after the election.”

Albanese and Haydon met at a business dinner in Melbourne in 2019, and are both avid fans of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team.

The couple got engaged on Valentine’s Day this year, with Albanese announcing the news in a post to Instagram.

The next federal election is likely to be called in May 2025, with a budget in March.

Albanese says he wants four-year federal terms, rather than the current three years, but any change would have to be approved by the Australian people in a referendum.

“We will call an election sometime between now and May,” he said.

“Three years is too short. Twice it has been tried and twice it has been rejected, another example of how hard it is to change our constitution.

“I would think less elections is something people would vote for, but apparently not.”
