Quiet luxury? Amal Clooney doesn’t know her. The reigning queen of European vacation style has returned to the continent to defend her crown, kicking off the summer with an outfit that would surely make Carrie Bradshaw green with envy.
The human rights lawyer and her husband, George Clooney, traded in last year’s Italian villa for a jaunt to Saint-Tropez. Spotted leaving lunch at Jardin Tropezina, she wore the Platonic ideal of a summer date outfit: a flirty white mini dress patterned with pink toile and neon yellow, orange, and pink florals. Keeping with the lighthearted spirit of the dress, she accessorized with oversized sunglasses, nude peep-toe wedges, and a white shoulder bag.
Featuring ruffle embellishments along the neckline, straps, and waistline, as well as a tiered skirt, and asymmetrical hemline, it should come as no surprise that the dynamic dress was Donatella Versace’s brainchild. The vintage piece was originally featured in Versace’s spring 2004 collection, dubbed “Diva Alert.” Fernanda Tavares walked the runway in look 10, the dress’s floral-free cousin, and Isabeli Fontana showed off the attention-grabbing neons in look 56. The collection made waves at the time: aughties hotties Liv Tyler, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan all favored the same print that Clooney wore in France.
A noted vintage collector, this Versace number is the latest in a long line of impressive pieces the barrister has sourced. For Clooney, sustainable dressing works for every occasion, from the 2023 DVF Awards—where she procured a blush-colored gown from John Galliano’s fall 2000 collection for Christian Dior—to speaking at the United Nations in a vintage Dior skirt suit. It’s likely that Clooney sourced this flouncy Versace from Emerieu Shop, which listed the dress online in May.
With a strong start to the summer, we can’t wait to see what else Amal Clooney has in her back pocket.
