Alyssa Milano Calls Shannen Doherty Relationship ‘Complicated’

Alyssa Milano shared a poignant tribute to “Charmed” co-star Shannen Doherty following news of her death this weekend.

“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano wrote in a statement provided to People on Sunday.

“She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”

Milano’s statement alluded to the years of tension between the actors, who played sisters on the supernatural TV series “Charmed” from 1998 to 2001.

Doherty left the show in its third season and later claimed that Milano had been responsible for her character’s premature exit.

Alyssa Milano honored her “complicated” relationship with “Charmed” co-star Shannen Doherty after news of her death emerged this weekend.

Last December during an episode of Doherty’s “Let’s Be Clear” podcast, “Charmed” co-star Holly Marie Combs remembered being told that Milano had threatened to sue the show if her on-screen sister was not fired.

“The narrative that I ‘quit’ was assigned to me by other people,” Doherty asserted, adding, “I loved going to that job. I loved the people that I worked with.”

Milano disputed the claims in a February Instagram post, where she said she “did not have the power to get anyone fired” and placed the blame on producer Aaron Spelling.

After Doherty departed “Charmed,” actor Rose McGowan took the “Heathers” star’s spot in the coven.

McGowan publicly attested to Doherty’s claim she was fired while addressing rumors of their own feud after the star announced her cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2016.

The “Jawbreaker” star remembered Doherty’s tenacity and spark in a statement after her death, taking to Instagram to say, “Shannen Doherty had the heart of a lion. Passion for craft is often mislabeled as trouble. Shannen was passion.”
