Advice From The Woman Behind All The Best A-List Brows

London-based Anu Khapung is responsible for some of the best brows on screen. From Margot Robbie to Emma Mackey and Emma Corrin—and these are just the names she’s allowed to mention—Khapung’s shaping and sculpting skills are in constant demand. “It’s always fun sharing stories over breakfast with Emma [Corrin] and the glam team on set, we really just joke around before the set call time,” she says of being on set with her famous clients.

Khapung was entrusted with creating Robbie’s Barbie brows for last summer’s blockbuster. “She [Robbie] is so down to earth and we always have a laugh,” she recalls. “Creating a character’s brows is a lot of fun. They really help shape and define a character, making a big difference in how the audience sees them on the big screen. They add that extra bit of authenticity that helps bring the character to life on screen.”

So, how do you create “Barbie” brows? “I spoke to Ivan Primorac, who was responsible for the hair and makeup for Barbie, but I also researched brow styles from the different eras and looks. Ivan also provided a brief—they had to be strong on screen, but also as soft and natural as possible.” After all, we are talking about the most recognizable doll face on the planet.

After working on the last season of Sex Education with Emma Mackey, Khapung now counts her as a close friend. “She’s such a beautiful human to be around. I also got her brows and lashes red carpet ready for her movie premiere for Emily.”

If you’re thinking of a brow reshape, Khapung recommends leaving your brows untouched for six weeks ahead of time. “Especially above the brow line. This allows the brows to grow out fully, giving me a natural canvas to work with.”
