(KTLA) – Actor Gabriel Olds, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Pat Robertson in the 2021 film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” was arrested Wednesday on sexual assault charges.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged the 52-year-old actor, who lives in L.A., with seven felony counts of sexual assault on July 19, the LAPD said in a news release. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued by the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Investigators with LAPD’s West Bureau Division took Olds into custody on Aug. 7.
In its press release, the LAPD said a 41-year-old woman reported to police in Jan. 2023 that Olds had raped her at her L.A. home.
“Two additional adult victims later came forward and made similar reports dating back to 2013, describing consensual dating encounters that descended into violent sexual assault,” the release stated.
Police said the women claimed Olds, a graduate of Yale University, “used his status as an Ivy League alumnus with success in the film industry to meet women and arrange dates.” He would also use dating apps to arrange meetings, several women said, according to police.
“Each victim reported that Olds lured them into a false sense of security during their initial encounters, then turned violent without seeking their consent,” the release noted.
As of Wednesday, police said they had identified three victims assaulted by the actor and two more women who reported less violent sexual conduct. The department is currently looking to identify any additional victims.
“We heard the same story again and again,” Detective Brent Hopkins, a Special Assault Section supervisor with LAPD’s Operations-West Bureau, said. “Mr. Olds started off charming but then used brutal violence to carry out these rapes. Some of these survivors suffered in silence for years before finding the strength to speak up. Now that he’s off the streets, we want to make sure everyone has a chance to be heard.”
Olds, who appeared in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” with Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield, is an actor and screenwriter whose credits include roles in shows such as “Boardwalk Empire,” “Medium,” “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Six Feet Under,” among dozens of other roles TV series, per IMDb.
