Abby Champion’s Guide to Face Rollers, Acupressure, and Model-On-The-Go Makeup

Before Abby Champion starts her skincare and makeup routine, she tends to her tresses with two cult products: Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother and No. 7 Bonding Oil. With her hair duly smoothed, she brushes it out and plaits it into a thick braid. Why the hair-first philosophy? “When I’m done with my skincare and I’m done with my makeup, I will [take the braid out and] have my hair done without any heat,” she shares, a victorious glint in her eye. Rapunzel-style coif intact, Champion begins her routine of (many) face rollers, acupressure, and model-on-the-go makeup.

Truly—the 27-year-old has amassed quite a collection of rollers. But before she uses any of them, she puts on a Garnier Moisture Bomb sheet mask. “Doing all of my rollers without a mask kind of hurts my skin barrier, and is too aggressive,” she says. Still, rollers are a must. “I do 50 [rolls] on one side [of the face] and 50 on the other side,” the Alabama native says. “I used to have such a puffy face, all throughout high school … Then, when I started modeling, I was like, OK, I have to have a snatched face for the runway.” Three roller sessions and much snatching later, Champion removes her mask and massages her face with Avène Cicalfate+ moisturizer. “I use this probably more than I should, but I’m telling you: This has changed my skin,” she says of the product, which she picked up in Paris. Browsing French pharmacies is de rigueur for Champion when she’s abroad; when she’s at home, she never passes up a good walk, workout, or sauna session. “I love a self-care day,” she says. “If it is self-care, I have tried it— and I love it.”

After caring for her TMJ with an acupressure pen, the model hydrates with LaNeige’s Lip Sleeping Mask and Osea’s eye cream. Her Avène Mineral Sunscreen is another French pharmacy find, as is the Embryolisse Lashes & Brows Booster that makes Champion feel “more alive”— even without a stitch of makeup on.

Speaking of makeup, the wellness aficionado reveals the key to model-on-the-go beauty: “It looks like yourself, a little bit elevated,” she says, dabbing Ilia concealer under her eyes. She uses Clé de Peau Beauté’s concealer next, then applies Merit bronzer with a lighthanded touch. “I use the smallest amount possible because, again, I don’t want it to look like I have makeup on,” she says.
