A Nostalgic British High Street Brand Just Got the Katie Holmes Seal Of Approval

Over the last few years Katie Holmes has become the unofficial poster girl for “demure girl autumn” style. We’re talking Ephronian knitwear, crumpled-but-cool coats, easy sneakers and straight-cut jeans—a sort of polished New Yorker spin on the frazzled Englishwoman. Well, Holmes only went up in our fashion estimation recently when she stepped out with an XXL tote bag from a very nostalgic high street brand: Dune.

With its woven leather fabrication and capacious proportions, at first glance we assumed that the A-lister’s holdall might be from Khaite, Bottega or The Row (all staple brands in Holmes’s wardrobe), but were pleasantly surprised to discover that in fact, it’s from British high street institution Dune, and therefore comes with a very purse-friendly price tag. It marks a shift for the accessories brand, which was founded in London in 1992, as it tries to diversify its offering and reach a more premium, fashion-savvy audience (Katie’s bag is from its new “Premium Collection”line). Clearly, it’s doing something right.

The rest of the outfit, meanwhile, is 100 percent Katie Holmes. Oversized cardigan? Check. Wide leg jeans? Check. Easy flats? Obviously. Katie knows the power of pared-back style, and evidently, is not immune to the allure of a relative bargain either. A woman after our own hearts.
