Kamala Harris is expected to announce her choice for running mate on Tuesday ahead of their first rally together in Philadelphia that evening, two people with knowledge of the plan told NBC News.
But those individuals still said the timing of the announcement may change based on when the vice president makes her final decision or if there’s a leak to the press.
The Tuesday announcement is set to emulate previous VP presentations, with online video and social media playing a part, in addition to a fundraising pitch.
The final list includes Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Shapiro, Kelly, and Walz all interviewed at Harris’s residence in Washington DC on Sunday, with the former astronaut muddying the waters somewhat by tweeting and then deleting a post in which he declared, “Now my mission is serving Arizonans,” seemingly suggesting he is no longer in contention.
Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was at a rally in Atlanta, Georgia, with his own running mate JD Vance on Saturday as his campaign doubled down on his attacks on Harris’s ethnicity.
Trump told a conference of Black journalists last week that the Democrat “happened to turn Black” only recently.
Trump jokes about how Biden would react to a shooting
Donald Trump joked about how Joe Biden would react to a shooting at one of his rallies during an appearance with streamer Adin Ross.
“‘Where are those bullets coming from? Oh, there they are.’ I don’t think he would’ve dropped to the floor,” Trump said.

‘You weren’t allowed to say Merry Christmas,’ Trump says
Trump told streamer Adin Ross on Monday that “You weren’t allowed to say Merry Christmas,” before he was president.
“I got it back,” he claimed. “Even if you’re Jewish they like to say Merry Christmas. Kamala doesn’t. She doesn’t want you to use Merry Christmas. She thinks it’s insulting to use Merry Christmas. So we’ll have to work on her.”

Trump says ‘San Francisco was the best city in the country 20 years ago’
During an appearance with the streamer Adin Ross on Monday afternoon, Trump went after Kamala Harris, saying “San Francisco was the best city in the country 20 years ago … Now it’s unlivable.”
Twenty years ago, in 2004, Harris had just begun her stint as district attorney of the city, serving until 2011 when she became the attorney general of California.

Democrats want Harris to pick battleground VP (and preferably a man)
A new CBS/YouGov poll from Sunday shows that most Democrats want a liberal candidate for VP who comes from a battleground state.
Kamala Harris is on the brink of announcing her pick for running mate. She has already said that her veep pick will appear alongside her at a rally on Tuesday.
The latest data shows that nearly four in ten Democrats (38 per cent) think Harris should choose a man to be her VP, as opposed to a woman (22 per cent).
Here’s more from our data correspondent Alicja Hagopian.

DNC calls RFK Jr ‘deeply troubled, reckless, and dangerous man’
Democratic National Committee (DNC) spokesman Matt Corridoni has this to say on the latest weird twist in the tale of the independent presidential candidate:
“The RFK Jr running for president is the same RFK Jr portrayed in this story: a deeply troubled, reckless, and dangerous man.
“He doesn’t think the rules apply to him and he refuses to consider the consequences of his actions.
“That is why he is willing to play the role of spoiler for Donald Trump in this election and why he has floated endorsing Trump in exchange for a job in a Trump administration.
“RFK Jr has always put RFK Jr first and he has no regard for the disastrous impact his actions would have on the American people.”
Missed the latest lunacy and wondering what they’re quite so upset about?

Trump calls UAW president a ‘stupid person’ after he endorses Harris
Speaking to Maria Bartiroma on Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures yesterday, the former president slammed United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain as a “stupid person” for backing Kamala Harris, threatening to deepen the divide between his camp and the American auto sector he is proposing to revitalize.
“We’re going to take in a fortune, but we’re going to tariff those jobs,” Trump told Bartiroma.
“We want them to build auto plants in the United States. Those people in Michigan that love me and that I love, and then they’re going to give us a victory because their auto industry won’t exist in two years if [Harris] gets elected.
“They’ve got to build in the United States, and they have to hire US workers and whether it’s union or non-union… Look, the United Auto Workers I know very well, they vote for me. They have a stupid person leading them, but they vote for me. They’re going to love Donald Trump more than ever before.
“We’re going to create in that area, the most traditional area, we’re going to have more auto jobs than we’ve ever had. We’re bringing back the automobile industry, and we’re going to do that with tariffs.”
I think this might be the sort of post that upsets Trump…

Could Andy Beshear be Kamala Harris’s running mate after all?
The answer to this could well be a short, sharp “no” as the Kentucky Governor was not among those reported to have been visiting Chez Harris on Sunday.
BUT, The Guardian notes that he abruptly cancelled a public appearance on Friday without explanation, a hint that he might have been called away from duties to huddle with the Veep.
Beshear has been impressive attacking JD Vance in recent weeks and, amazingly, has the highest approval rating of any Democratic governor in the country, with 67 per cent of Kentuckians holding a favorable impression of him, this despite no Democratic presidential contender winning his state since 1996.
Here’s Andrew Feinberg’s profile.

Harris and Trump no closer to agreement on first TV debate
The two rivals are still yet to agree on a date for their first televised presidential debate, with Kamala Harris preferring to stick to ABC’s September 10 broadcast (as agreed between Joe Biden and Donald Trump) and the Republican proposing an alternative on Fox News on September 4, which the Democrat has rejected.
