Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) could barely contain his glee as he tore into Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) during a joint Fox News hit Tuesday.
Raskin and Comer, the ranking member and chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, appeared on “Special Report” in a segment called “Common Ground” after they worked together to successfully call for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
At one point, host Bret Baier asked if the Comer-led impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden had “come officially to an end.”
“My job wasn’t to impeach; my job was to investigate,” the Republican congressman said, adding that “the American people know a lot more about what the Bidens have done because of our work.”
Raskin appeared to be suppressing a smile throughout Comer’s response.
“I think Chairman Comer did a magnificent job exonerating Joe Biden of all the fraudulent charges that were raised against him in this Congress,” Raskin chimed in with a laugh.
“And, of course, there was no high crime, no misdemeanor, and Joe Biden is a passionate public servant filled with integrity.”
Republicans failed to find evidence of wrongdoing by Biden during their lengthy investigation into the president and his family members.
Last month, Republicans asked the Justice Department to prosecute Biden’s brother James Biden and son Hunter Biden, alleging that they made false statements to Congress during the probe. The department is not obligated to act on such criminal referrals.
In a statement at the time, Raskin suggested that the referrals were effectively an admission that the impeachment inquiry had turned up no evidence of wrongdoing.
“After collecting 3.8 million pages of documents and more than 80 hours of testimony from 19 witnesses, they throw up their hands and confess that they have no evidence of any wrongdoing, much less a high crime and misdemeanor by President Biden,” he said.
Earlier in the Fox News interview, Baier asked Raskin if he believes the process to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris to top his party’s ticket — a move that seems all but certain following Biden’s exit from this year’s presidential race — is OK with Democrats, given that “there hasn’t been voting” for Harris.
Raskin replied that 14 million people voted for Biden on a joint ticket with Harris. The Maryland representative also pointed out that Donald Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, “isn’t even supporting” him anymore as Trump seeks to retake the White House.
“People were talking about hanging him, and then they stuck in JD Vance instead, a guy who said that Donald Trump could be America’s next Hitler,” Raskin noted, referring to threats made against Pence during the 2021 Capitol riot and remarks made years ago by Trump’s new running mate.
Social media users pulled out the popcorn to watch clips of the interview, which raked in millions of views.
“Comer just threw up and swallowed it,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“Raskin quickness and wit when it comes to messaging is pretty top notch,” another observer wrote.
