Nicki Minaj Transformed Into a Floral Sculpture at the 2024 Met Gala

Given tonight’s Met Gala guests adhered to a “Garden of Time” dress code, it’s not surprising that many A-list celebrities embraced sprightly florals on the red carpet. But few did so as well (and as dramatically) as Nicki Minaj. This evening, the rap superstar transformed herself into a whole floral sculpture—courtesy of an avant-garde design by Marni’s Francesco Risso. (Custom, of course.)

Minaj’s Met look tonight served an artistic interpretation of the sculptural floral designs that Marni first showed in its spring 2024 collection last year—and took the theme to a whole new level. The star’s custom hourglass mini dress, done in a hand-painted golden silk duchess material, was covered in 3-D metal flowers that were also hand-painted various sprightly hues. Complete with the floral shoes and dazzling jewels to match, she resembled a high-fashion bouquet.

Minaj is a pro when it comes to nailing fashion at the Met Gala. This evening marked her seventh time attending the affair, and over the years she has always brought drama and theatrics to the red carpet. At the 2022 Met Gala, for instance, the star wore a vampy black look by Burberry’s Riccardo Tisci; The ballgown was embellished with feathers and punctuated with a formal baseball cap. For the 2019 “Camp” theme, Minaj went pink and frothy in an upbeat Prabal Gurung creation.

Tonight, Minaj once again nailed a surprising reveal, and for that, she definitely deserves her flowers.
