Given tomorrow will mark the 2024 Met Gala, it only makes sense that the best dressed stars of the week all took bold risks on the red carpets—almost as though they were ramping up for the statement looks they’re sure to deliver on the famous Met steps. These past few days, A-listers such as Rosalía, Bella Hadid, and Anya-Taylor Joy all went for head-turning designs—proving that, sometimes, it’s better to fully commit to an experimental silhouette than to play it safe.
This weekend in New York City, for one, Rosalía emerged wearing a voluminous Celine faux fur coat that was almost spherical. Somehow, she pulled it off—rocking it like it was a casual overcoat. When promoting Furiosa in Sydney, Joy also slipped into a frock that took up space: Her spiked Paco Rabanne look, from the spring 1996 couture collection, even came with the matching headpiece. These aren’t your average LBDs, and that was the point; It’s refreshing when stars stray from the pack and deliver an eye-popping fashion fantasy.
There were more winning looks that were a little more subtle this week, though they still had a major impact as well. At Vogue’s pre-Met party, Hari Hef covered herself in colorful Balenciaga florals. Bella Hadid also made her return to the street style scene while promoting her new fragrance line Orebella—and she chose a vintage Roberto Cavalli frock for the occasion, covered in a sprightly gardenia print. Clearly, minimalism is taking a pause for spring. And we’re thrilled!
