Barbie fans fume Oscars ‘missed the point’ as Ryan Gosling nominated over Margot Robbie | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Barbie fans have launched an angry tirade at the Academy Awards for snubbing both Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig from the nominations.

While America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling were nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Actor, the feminist fantasy-comedy somehow failed to score Oscar nominations for the two most important women behind the project.

The female-fronted blockbuster did score nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costumes, Best Production Design and two for Best Original Song.

However, along with Margot’s snub, many movie buffs are disappointed the Academy failed to make Greta the second woman nominated for Best Director, next to Anatomy of a Fall’s Justine Triet.

Fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) following the nominations being released on Tuesday to slam the awards for the baffling decision.

“Wait Ryan Gosling got nominated for his role as Ken, but Margot Robbie didn’t get nominated for Barbie?!” another fumed.

“And Greta got snubbed for Best Director?!?! Way to justify the literal plot of the movie @TheAcademy.”

“Regardless of your feelings towards Barbie as a film, how do you not even acknowledge the women who made it exist (Margot and Greta) yet nominate it for Best Picture and acknowledge its male star for both his performance and his song??” read another angry comment. “Margot was the perfect Barbie too…”

And a final commenter said: “Ken getting nominated and not Barbie is honestly so fitting for a film about a man discovering the power of patriarchy in the Real World.”

Ryan will likely perform the Oscar-nominated song I’m Just Ken at the ceremony on Sunday, March 10, once again putting the spotlight on the fan-favorite male star whilst the film’s leading female creatives miss out.
