With Christmas just gone, you might have gained a few pounds. While having a little extra weight is nothing to worry about, being overweight or obese could spell a serious health risk.
For example, obesity is linked to multiple dangerous health problems, ranging from diabetes to stroke. Therefore, taking steps to reduce your weight could benefit your health.
Fortunately, a fitness expert has revealed the best exercise for fat loss. What’s more, the physical movement will help you burn “the most amount of calories”.
You might think you need to take up a vigorous activity like running or pay a membership to access a local pool to boost weight loss. However, Mike Thurston, coach and fitness entrepreneur, explained that one unexpected exercise can be very effective.
The fitness coach shared that leg workouts usually burn “the most amount of calories”. In a video posted on TikTok, Thurston was asked about the best exercise for fat loss.
To which, he responded: “There’s no one exercise which is just going to immediately burn a load of body fat.
“Unfortunately, a lot of that is down to nutrition intake and being consistent with it over a long period of time.
“But by far, the workout which will burn the most amount of calories is usually a leg workout.”
Another important thing to remember is that spot reducing fat from specific areas of your body won’t work.
Unlike muscles, where you can specifically target areas where you want to build them, Female Fitness Coach Tina explained that you simply can’t choose where you lose fat from.
Instead, the fitness expert recommended creating a calorie deficit where your body is burning more calories than it’s consuming.
You can achieve this through moving more, eating less, or a combination of both.
She said: “When your body is burning more energy than it’s consuming, it starts resorting to your stored body fat to burn extra energy it needs to function— this is how we lose fat.
“Unfortunately, we have no control over where we lose fat from first (my love handles/belly is usually the last to go). But all the unwanted fat will eventually go if you stay consistent.”
