Sunrise host Nat Barr reacts to ominous warning: ‘You know you’re finished’

Sunrise host Nat Barr has reacted to a guest’s fiery warning to the Queensland premier amid rumours of a leadership challenge.

Nat was speaking to journalist Justin Smith and radio host Moira Major about Annastacia Palaszczuk, who recently returned from a two-week holiday abroad to fierce leadership speculation and dire polling figures.

The Queensland premier has now given her ministers a seven-week deadline to decide if they will stick with her or leave, saying she’s determined to lead the government to the next election.

During the segment, Nat pointed out that the premier had claimed that no Queensland MPs had raised any issues personally with her.

But Smith claimed this was even more reason for Palaszczuk to be concerned.

“That’s how they come for you to be frank,” he said.

“And I would say, what we’re hearing is the sound of a dying leader.”

Taken aback by the bold comment, Nat shared a surprised reaction and exclaimed: “OK!”

Smith continued: “And by the way, I’ve got no problem with Annastacia Palaszczuk — I certainly have no problem with her going on a break.

“But when you start handing out deadlines, when you’re in that position, when you’ve got to say, ‘Hey, listen, get behind me’ and there’s the timeline on it?”

“You know, you’re finished unfortunately. And you know, I take no pride in saying that.”

Smith went on to say that he believes the Queensland premier’s days are numbered.

“The problem is all the numbers will be done by a bunch of guys that we’ve never heard of, people in Queensland have never even heard of, that are doing the numbers in a Chinese restaurant with mobile phones against Annastacia Palaszczuk right now,” he said.

“Because that’s how governments work and she’ll just quietly — like getting hit by a sniper, she won’t even know it.

“It’ll just be over and soon I would think.”
