Home and Away star Emily Weir wowed on Dancing With the Stars. Then an Aussie A-lister messaged her

Home and Away’s Emily Weir has made it to the grand finale of Dancing With the Stars in true style, but she is candid about the fact it’s been “really tough on the body”.

The actress has stunned with a series of jaw-dropping performances on the hit Channel 7 show – and she has now revealed her moves have even caught the eye of an A-list Aussie.

While fans have been quick to heap praise on Emily’s dancing ability, she also received a message she wasn’t expecting, from a fellow star.

“I’m a huge Rebecca Gibney fan – like, so much – and my mum noticed Rebecca Gibney had commented on one of my posts,” Emily tells 7Life.

“Mum goes, ‘She’s the real one, she’s got the tick thing’,” Emily went on, referring to the fact the comment was posted on Gibney’s verified Instagram account.

“So I had to go into my comments and scroll down, and (mum) is like, ‘Do you see it? Do you see it?’

“I was like, ‘Yes, I see it Mum’,” Emily quipped.

New Zealand-born Gibney is an Australian acting icon, the Gold Logie-winning actress best known for starring on the Channel 7 hit show Packed to the Rafters.

On Instagram, the prolific actress is well known for sharing videos of herself dancing and lip-syncing to songs, often in hotel rooms.

She had written the words “BRAVO!!! That was sensational,” about one of Emily’s DTWS performances.

“It was Rebecca Gibney, which was really cool,” Emily explained.

“And she’d watched the dance and loved it, and I commented back and that was really nice.

Supportive messages aside, Emily is candid about the toll dancing has taken on her body.

She tells how her contemporary dance performance was “physically the hardest”.

“Like it was really, really tough on the body,” said, adding that when “you go hard” with contemporary dance when you’re not trained, the recovery is immense.

“That was physically challenging and emotionally, that was also really vulnerable and a raw dance… which was really special,” she said.

Ahead of Emily’s grand finale performance – which airs at 7pm on Sunday July 23 on Channel 7 and 7plus – the star gave a taste of what was to come.

“It’s really fast and I really felt like I wouldn’t be able to keep up with it. But also it was a mash-up of all the dances so that was also hard to execute,” she says.

Ahead of her appearance on Dancing With the Stars, Emily told 7Life it would be the first time Australia would “see me as me” and not her Home and Away character, Mackenzie.

“I’m not for everyone and that’s okay,” she said.

“It’s nice to see people enjoying the girl behind Mackenzie Booth, I guess.

“It’s been so far, so good.”
