Fans puzzled by shock sighting of sacked AFL coach Stuart Dew inside Australia’s Ashes camp

Former Gold Coast Suns Stuart Dew has been spotted in Australia’s Ashes camp just six days after being publicly sacked from the AFL side.

After six years in charge without breaking the club’s finals duck, Dew was photographed in a full Australian kit, alongside players and coaches during training at Old Trafford ahead of the fourth Test.

It’s not the first time an Australian sporting figure as been involved in the Ashes.

Ahead of the second Test, Australian Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri and AFL legend Joel Selwood were invited to have a bit of fun at the end of practice

“I’m so confused,” wrote several fans, while others joked that Dew was replacing veteran opener David Warner.

“OK, weird,” another fan wrote.

And another simply said: “Many questions.”

7AFL wondered if it was his next career move: “Opening for Australia at Old Trafford. Potentially,” they tweeted.

Dew is reportedly a good mate of allrounder Travis Head.

He has not spoken publicly since his abrupt axing last Tuesday.

Instead, the former premiership player with Hawthorn and Port Adelaide booked an impromptu holiday to the United Kingdom.

He inspected the Old Trafford wicket and was spotted in deep discussion with Port Adelaide ambassador Head, fellow South Australian Alex Carey and Victorian quick Scott Boland.

The Suns board met last Monday night to vote Dew out, despite the coach winning a two-year contract extension last season..
