7NEWS understands Moghnieh and Hodroj had been separated for one year and she had been at his house to pick up her children when she was allegedly murdered.

The 30-year-old was employed as an aged care worker in Bankstown and had been an aspiring graphic artist.

Hodroj faced Sutherland Local Court on Thursday morning, where the matter was briefly mentioned.

He didn’t apply for bail and it was formally refused.

He is set to face court again next month.
