Richmond captain Toby Nankervis has been handed a three-match ban by the AFL tribunal for his ugly bump that concussed Sydney star Jake Lloyd.
Nankervis was referred directly to the tribunal after the match review officer graded the incident as careless conduct, high contact and severe impact.

Lloyd was flattened and play was eventually paused while he was assessed by medical staff before he jogged off the ground under their watch.
The Swans defender was substituted out before half-time and will miss this week’s clash with the Western Bulldogs under concussion protocols.
At the tribunal, the AFL asked for a four-match ban, while Richmond argued for three matches.
The AFL used the recent Jordan De Goey bump on West Coast youngster Elijah Hewett as an example, which saw the star Magpie given a three-match ban.
They argued Nankervis’ breach of the duty of care was “more egregious” than De Goey, but the AFL ultimately sided with Richmond and handed down a three-match ban.
He will miss games against West Coast, Hawthorn and Melbourne.
The fallout from Nankervis’ bump, which robbed Sydney of one of their chief playmakers in a loss that left their finals hopes in tatters, sparked calls for a send-off rule like those used in other football codes.
