Interested teams are set to get a look at one of the more intriguing names on the trade market on Saturday.
New York Rangers winger Chris Kreider is set to return to the lineup alongside centre Filip Chytil as they prepare to take on the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday afternoon, head coach Peter Laviolette told reporters.
Laviolette did not announce who would come out of the lineup in their place.
Kreider, 33, has been out for the team’s last three games as he dealt with back spasms while Chytil, 25, has been out since Nov. 14 with an upper-body injury.
The Boxford, Mass. native has been with the team since the 2012-13 season and has helped lead the squad to nine post-season appearances in 12 seasons, including a 2014 run to the Stanley Cup Final and three trips to the Eastern Conference Final. He has struggled out of the gate, with just nine goals and no assists in 19 games.
Chytil, meanwhile, tallied four goals and five assists in 15 games this season before missing the last seven games with his injury. Ahead of Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers, Laviolette told reporters that Chytil was “day-to-day, but not today.”
The centre has struggled with injuries throughout his career, missing all but 10 games of the 2023-24 regular season after suffering a concussion and dealing with setbacks in his recovery.
The Rangers have struggled of late and are in the midst of a five-game losing streak. They sit in fourth in the Metropolitan division with a 12-9-1 record.
