CNN Data Reporter Has ‘Goodness Gracious’ Moment Over GOP’s House Majority

CNN’s senior political data reporter Harry Enten marveled at the razor-thin 220-215 House majority that Republicans will have over Democrats if current results hold.

“My goodness gracious,” Enten declared on Wednesday’s broadcast of “News Central.” “Yes. The Republicans are going to control the House of Representatives but if all the current results hold up, we’re looking at a record small majority […] in the last 90 years. You have to go all the way back since the Herbert Hoover administration to find an even smaller majority at the November elections. “

“And keep in mind that this will drop lower,” Enten added, noting how former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) quit Congress amid his botched nomination as Trump’s attorney general and Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) will leave their House roles because they are joining Trump’s administration as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and national security adviser.

Then, Enten noted, there will be a 217-215 majority until special elections are held to fill the seats. Gaetz and Waltz’s seats are in safe GOP areas.

“This is crazy, right?” said Enten.

“The bottom line is, look, the results from the November elections weren’t exactly good for Democrats but this is a shining light for them,” he added. “They really did hold the Republican majority down. And given the likely resignations that are coming, that House of Representatives for the Republicans, that House majority is going to be record, record small.”
