(NewsNation) — Jaws dropped this week when it was revealed in the Daily Mail that Madonna wanted $100 million for her biopic, with ministers saying it was “ludicrous.”
And my Hollywood insiders agree.
Madonna is too late to the biopic trend
“For once — Madonna is late to the game,” one of my West Coast spies sniffed. “Biopics haven’t been doing well — just look at the fiasco of JLo.”
Jennifer Lopez notoriously released her biopic and musical — “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” and “This is Me… Now” — both of which bombed.
“Also, (Madonna) runs through money like water — and she’s all over Instagram. What more could she have to say that hasn’t been in her interviews, Instagram or books that would merit $100 million?”
For her part, Madonna took to Instagram to moan: “After struggling for days in LA listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film (I’ve been working on it for 4 years!)… downsize, downscale, think smaller they say — i realized everything in my life is going to be challenged. No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful… It forces me to think outside the box.
“I did not have a normal life. I can not make this the normal way… new cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life the whole universe will conspire to help you get it.
“Should I make the story of my life in to a series or a feature film? Think before you answer!”
My insider laughed, “Why doesn’t she pay for it herself if she wants it that bad? She’s got the money … and it’s not like she’s Taylor Swift.”
A rep for Madonna didn’t return emails.
