Despite a widespread search, no trace of him has been found.

7NEWS understands Twiss’ brother has travelled to Albania to assist in the search.

A keen traveller according to his social media profiles, Twiss was last seen on October 13, setting off to the Theth hiking trail from Valbona, in the country’s north.

Locals say the 17km hike should be completed with a professional guide. However, it’s understood that Twiss was planning on doing the trek alone.

A friend told 7NEWS they feared he had fallen from a cliff or been met with foul play.

The Albanian Mountain Search and Rescue Service launched a search on foot and using drones, but has not provided an update on the search for almost three weeks.

“Our members in co-ordination with the State Police checked today the trail that takes you from Valbona to Theth and the suspected areas where tourists encounter the most difficulties but today’s search resulted in no sign of the person,” the November 2 update read.

“The search has been suspended to receive more information.”

Anyone in the area who might have encountered a tourist along the trail was asked to contact authorities.
