Jets abruptly shift gears on Haason Reddick drama with ultimatum

Just last week, in the wake of former head coach Robert Saleh’s firing, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson pleaded with linebacker Haason Reddick during a news conference to end his lengthy holdout. Johnson said that despite the contentious, monthslong drama, Gang Green would welcome the two-time Pro Bowler into the fold with open arms.

Now, under new representation, Reddick has reportedly been given an ultimatum regarding a possible end to the situation.

Multiple Jets insiders said on Tuesday morning that they were skeptical of a potential trade occurring.

While Reddick was one of the league’s best pass-rushers during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, he’s also turned into one of New York’s biggest headaches in an organization filled with them.

The 30-year-old was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Jets on March 29 and, more than six months later, still hasn’t reported to the team.

According to a report by ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Reddick lives roughly 90 minutes from the Jets’ training facility and has been fined approximately $4.7M in game checks and accrued another $5M in NFL-mandated fines.

The Jets (2-4) started 2-1 but have now lost three in a row and have the seventh-ranked defense (18.0 points allowed per game).

Despite having offensive stars like wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall alongside four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the unit has scored just 18.8 points per contest (22nd).

The offense could be getting a huge boost, however, as it was reported on Tuesday morning that New York was finalizing a trade to acquire six-time Pro Bowl wideout Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.
