Over the summer, auto theft detectives began investigating a group of individuals allegedly responsible for vehicle thefts and nighttime break-ins across the GTA.

Police connected the group to 13 “high-end motor vehicle thefts” worth an estimated $1.5 million.

As part of Project Chicago and Project Blue Streak, investigators executed four search warrants at residences in Peel Region, Toronto and Alliston, recovering multiple vehicles and illegal firearms and magazines. Police said one of the firearms was converted to being fully automatic and had a high-capacity drum magazine.

“Congratulations to our dedicated investigators from #PRP22Div,” Peel police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in a social-media post. “Four criminal code warrants executed, multiple vehicles recovered, 3 in custody with illegal firearms off street.”

Three people were arrested and charged, while the investigation remains active and police anticipate further arrests and charges.

Cody Watts, 22, of Toronto, was charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a loaded firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a prohibited device.
