McDonald’s viral Grimace shake arrives in Australia

McDonald’s Grimace shake and Grimace meal have landed down under and are now available in-store.

The famous purple milkshake comes topped with whipped cream, and while the fast food giant has not officially disclosed the flavour, it is most commonly described as vanilla and blueberry-flavoured.

It’s available on its own or as part of a medium or large Grimace meal, complete with fries and your choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece chicken McNuggets.

While it may sound like a giant kids’ meal, unfortunately the Grimace meal does not include a toy or collectable item.

“Grimace has been making fuzzy waves around the globe and now it’s our turn to celebrate,” Marketing Director for McDonald’s Australia Amanda Nakad said.

“We thought there was no better way to channel the energy of our lovable pal than by bringing you the Grimace Shake.

“The Grimace Shake is fun, vibrant and bursting with flavour.

“It’s a tribute to Grimace and the joy he’s brought to Macca’s fans over the years.

“So buckle up – we’re finally giving Aussies what they’ve been waiting for and we know they’re going to love it.”

Grimace is a character who made his first appearance in the 1970s as part of the McDonaldland campaign.

He featured in McDonald’s advertising, primarily last century, alongside characters like Ronald McDonald and the Hamburglar.

Australians may remember the purple giant from the nostalgic PlayPlaces attached to McDonald’s outlets which has been largely phased out.

The McDonaldland characters are still regularly used for children’s products and through the Ronald McDonald House Charity.

The Grimace shake and Grimace meal are available in restaurants nationwide via drive thru, kiosk and front counter, as well as the MyMacca’s app and McDelivery — but for a limited time only.
