Gavin & Stacey star joins Sigourney Weaver in Shakespeare production | Theatre | Entertainment

Sigourney Weaver stunned her fans last month when it was announced she had joined one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays, The Tempest.

This new production, which is due to take place at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from December 19, 2024, to February 1, 2025, stars the Alien actor as Prospero.

In even more unexpected events, it has just been confirmed The Tempest will also star Gavin & Stacey actor Mathew Horne.

The actor, who is best known for playing Gavin in the aforementioned BBC sitcom, will be taking on the role of Trinculo.

This isn’t out of the ordinary for the Gavin & Stacey star, however. He has also made a name for himself on stages around the country in productions such as Noises Off, Rain Man, The Lover / The Collection and The Homecoming.

Horne will be joining Weaver in her West End debut this December.

Speaking out about hitting the capital’s stage, the Avatar star said: “I am delighted to be making my West End debut in Shakespeare’s The Tempest directed by the brilliant Jamie Lloyd – and to do so in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beautiful and historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane is an extraordinary opportunity. Come and see us!”

Weaver and Horne will also be joined by a full star-studded cast, including Jason Barnett (playing Stephano), Jude Akuwudike (Alonso), Selina Cadell (Gonzalo), Mara Huf (Miranda), Forbes Masson (Caliban), Mason Alexander Park (Ariel), James Phoon (Ferdinand), Oliver Ryan (Sebastian) and Tim Steed (Antonio).
