Two people were trapped under downed power lines until the electricity running through them could be shut off, after a Tesla crashed into a power pole and sent it crashing onto their vehicle.
The Tesla hit the power pole on Raymond St at Bankstown, in Sydney’s southwest, about 10.45am on Thursday.
The impact caused the pole and power lines to fall onto a Subaru on the intersecting Restwell St, police said.

Fire and Rescue NSW told 7NEWS.com.au the power pole was “completely snapped off”.
Two people were trapped inside the Subaru until an energy authority confirmed the power lines had been “de-energised”, giving firefighters the green light to get them out, FRNSW said.
The two people were then assessed at the scene by paramedics.
Two people were also trapped inside the Tesla with specialist FRNSW teams needed to remove the doors to free them.
They were taken to Liverpool Hospital, one with multiple injuries, NSW Ambulance said.
“Raymond St, between Restwell St and West Tce, is closed, and police urge drivers to avoid the area at this time,” NSW Police said.
Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
