Here, 44 editors open up their vanities to detail their holy-grails. From antioxidant-rich serums to viral beauty tools, these are the best skin-care products of 2023, according to the editors of Vogue.
Kiana Murden, beauty shopping writer
Picking my holy grail beauty products feels comparable to picking your favorite child. Impossible and admittedly, unfair! But, for the sake of this piece, I’ll put my feelings aside and wax on about the bits I use most often. Over the last year, the Solawave has been my most used beauty tool. It genuinely makes achieving firmer, glowier skin easy. I love to glide the wand across my face for a before-bed pick-me-up at least twice a week; and also keep a wand in my always-packed travel cosmetics case. On skin care, learning to care for my newly-introduced oily skin has been quite the feat. Staving off excess oils and preventing pimples is a never ending cycle, but made easier with Glo Skin’s Beta-Clarity Drops. Its trio of retinol, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid manages to clarify pores and limit sebum production sans irritation. Remember: even oily skin needs hydration. Epi.Logic’s serum rich in hyaluronic acid, peptides, growth factors, and beta-glucan is sublime (particularly under makeup!). More often than not, I lock in this moisture with Sulwhasoo’s Concentrated Ginseng cream. With its silky, satiny texture, glowy-never-shiny finish, its no wonder its a cult-favorite.

Many Vogue editors swear by a handy beauty gadget to keep their skin in tip-top shape. For example, we love the NuFace to lift, firm, and tone. The buzzy tool uses microcurrent technology to sculpt and contour the face in minutes. Essentially exercise for your face, the NuFace is excellent to diminish puffiness or prep for a big day. To promote a more radiant complexion, smooth wrinkles, and diminish dark spots, on the other hand, is the Currentbody LED face mask—which uses red and near-infrared light to rejuvenate skin with consistent use. Not to mention, it’s one of the best gifts for women.

How do you maintain a skin care routine when your job is trying out skincare products? It’s not easy. But when my dry, dry skin is feeling totally out of whack I have some products I grab for a reset. Everything I’m applying is aimed toward coddling, plumping, and hydrating—starting with my cleanser, which starts out as a thick gel-oil on dry skin and turns into a milk as soon as I add water. Skin is left baby soft, but ready for all the next steps, which include a super-hyaluronic toner, patting on Aquaphor anywhere that’s looking a little too patchy or cracked, and an SPF that both makes my skin look a little more alive and has a great texture worn alone or under makeup.
Arden Fanning Andrews, beauty editor at large
French pharmacist Natacha Bonjout told me to stop washing my good skin flora off in the morning and just mist my face with water before moisturizing (I like her Le Balm for this), and my skin has been pretty clear ever since. There’s something about the way Yon-Ka Paris Invigorating Mist smells that makes me think it’s working (if you use Caudalie’s, you’ll get it)—same for Thomas Grove’s The Facial Oil. Gisou’s honey lip oil is so pillowy and I hear that they take nice care of their little bees, which I like. Also, I’ve been reading the clinical studies for Reome’s Active Recovery Broth around increased radiance and hydration, so I’m getting into that next.
Taylor Lashley, social media manager
I am obsessed with Sunday Riley’s Afterglow Brightening Gel Cream. Not only does it leave my skin looking brighter, but this moisturizer is lightweight enough to wear under makeup and also has a gorgeous non-greasy satin-like finish when worn on its own. Rhode’s Glazing Milk is an essential product in both my morning and nighttime skincare routines. My skin is on the dryer side so this product is a great boost of hydration before I start applying my other skincare products. I’ve also recently started using Herbar’s gua-shroom because I’m trying to get back into a daily gua sha routine.
Hamish Bowles, international editor-at-large
I was on a plane several times a month, and in the interest of not inducing a second hernia I had to pare down the panoply of products ranged on far too many of my bathroom shelves at home. Luckily, my Paris- and London-based dermatologist, Dr. Antoni Calmon, made life very easy for me when he told me that I could get away with a morning application of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic serum, a generic sunblock SPF 50 (although I barely set eyes on the sun through most of the spring of 2020), and the cutaneous Differin cream at night before bed. (If I really wanted to spoil myself at home, I might mitigate the tingle with a luxurious moisturizer: La Mer’s The Moisturizing Soft Cream is my first choice here, but after one of the jars broke in my luggage, I decided not to travel with it, although I’m sure the clothes it was packed with have never had a silkier softener!)

When I can’t get to Rescue Spa for a facial with Diana, Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream still works magic.
Charlotte Diamond, associate fashion editor
I have been on Accutane for the last four or so months (masks really did a number on me), and while it has helped clear up my skin, I have been suffering from the dreaded dry, cracked lips. Aside from my trusty Aquaphor, my solution for this decidedly unsexy problem has been Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask. I apply it quite liberally before I go to sleep and wake up the next morning with quenched, soft lips. A good solution indeed!
Madeline Fass, senior commerce fashion market editor
I’ve recently become a SkinCeuticals convert, from their serums to sunscreen; I’m obsessed! My skin care routine can’t start without the C E Ferulic and the HA Intensifier. I was also recently persuaded by one of the Zitomer Pharmacy ladies to add Earthen’s Lift and Repair serum into my routine nightly, for its featured skin-plumping peptides. Plus, Barbara Sturm’s body serum has been great for neck and décolletage after the shower.
Molly Barstein, content operations associate
Recently, I have been loving the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel Pads and have started slowly incorporating them into my nightly skin-care routine. I recommend using them one to two times a week in the beginning and promise that you will wake up in the morning with baby-soft skin. I’m also a huge fan of LED light therapy and was thrilled when I found out that they make a device that allows me to treat my skin in the comfort of my home. I wear this mask every night while watching TV for facial-like results.
Lisa Aiken, executive fashion director
Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum was a game-changing discovery for me while at her spa on Mount Street in London. I struggled to ensure high moisture levels while balancing combination skin…but this is so light and so dramatically hydrating I was blown away from a few days of using a travel sample. I use morning and night below Sisley’s Black Rose moisturizer.
Irene Kim, production and editorial coordinator
Once I find a skin care product I love I’ll stick to it for the rest of my life until it fails me. The Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum is a serum I’ve been buying since I was in high school and I’ll never stop using it because I’m pretty sure it’s the key to my relatively great skin. I was also using the Dior face wash for a hot minute, but recently I’ve gone back to my trusty Bioderma Sensibio face wash. It’s perfect for sensitive skin like mine and I really love how much it lathers because it makes me feel like it’s doing a better job at actually cleansing my skin. I’m not too picky about moisturizers but this one from Aestura is apparently the bestselling moisturizer in Korea according to my cousins. It has little beads that “burst” when you rub in for that extra hydration.
Tonne Goodman, sustainability editor
I met Joanna Vargas through Vogue in 2006, before she became a celebrity to celebrities, and I have been devoted ever since. She is known for ‘hands from heaven’ for her facials, and her products are flawless. I’m now committed to her new nighttime serum. It’s a retinol serum that smells delicious, is hydrating, stimulates collagen, and tightens (important for me!). Say no more, it ticks all the boxes.
Alexis Bennett, senior shopping writer
Lately, I’ve been taking a less-is-more approach when it comes to my skin-care routine. Instead of a never-ending concoction of harsh exfoliants, I’m leaning into super hydrating moisturizers and antioxidant-packed serums. My new two favorites are Tatcha’s Dewy Skin Cream (in the gratitude size) and Sunday Riley’s C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum. Those two magical potions work together like peanut butter and jelly in my skin-care regimen, keeping my skin glowing and plump.
Chloe Schama, senior editor
I’ve vaguely followed the benefits of vitamin C and retinol, so when I came across Kate Somerville’s two-in-one cream, I was intrigued. Apparently, using the two ingredients in tandem can cause irritation, but that hasn’t been the case for me—in fact, the moisturizer seems to preempt the drying that can sometimes occur with retinol. An added bonus: Subtracting a step from my routine means one less thing to worry about, means less stress, means better skin—or so I like to think!
Cassandra Pintro, associate production manager
These days I’ve been all about mastering my clear skin routine and thinking about clean beauty. I don’t think there is a product from Topicals that I don’t own and Dieux quickly becoming a new favorite. Both prove that sometimes you can believe the hype!
Samantha Sussman, associate director, social creative
This is a new cleanser I recently tried and I have to say I am converted. I have had a hard time finding a cleanser that I feel like is actually changing my skin for the better. A facialist told me, “I can tell” when I admitted that I do not, in fact, exfoliate regularly, this cleanser does the job and is gentle enough to use on a daily basis. Consider your skin clarified!
Ian Malone, experiences manager
With skin, simplicity is key. I start with the Erborian Solid Cleansing Oil, which purifies without stripping the face of moisture. Afterwards, I apply a serum by 4am Skin, either “Rise” or “Rest” depending on the time of day. Finally, I apply a generous amount of Barbara Sturm Face Cream Rich, which feels dreamy.
Sarah Spellings, fashion news editor
Whenever my skin feels a little drab, I use a Joanna Vargas face mask. I never used to be on board with skin-care masks, but these leave my skin feeling so refreshed and hydrated. I love the process of using the Tatcha Rice Polish just as much as I love the results. This powder-to-foam exfoliant sloughs away my uneven texture, and leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. A truly luxurious experience from beginning to end, and I hear Meghan Markle is also a fan!
Aurelie Pellissier Roman, global design director
After my trip to Seoul this summer where I had my skin analyzed and the greatest facial at Chaum Life center, I know my skin to be quite dehydrated, lacking in elasticity, and prone to pigmentation. La Belle Lune’s balm to milk cleansers washes all makeup and SPF in the gentlest way, without leaving residue. The scent is perfect for the end of the day. It leaves skin feeling super-soft and clean without any dryness. The only problem is this product sells out instantly, so I back up with the original cleanser “Witching Hour.” Next, I really love toner pads or essences before applying serums and moisturizers. Decorte’s essence is neither super watery nor thick, just the perfect in between that plumps and hydrates before next step.
I love the texture of Mother Science’s brightening serum; it’s lightweight but still lightly moisturizing. This contains Malassezin which is apparently an antioxidant 10x more powerful than Vitamin C. I do see that my skin has felt smoother and brighter in the past month I’ve used it. Retrouvé’s moisturizer is my all time favorite, I’ve used it since its launched in 2014. I find the texture so special, it feels lightweight but really moisturizing and so glossy on skin. I find each time use it continuously, my skin just feels happier and looks better, I prefer it to Augustinus Bader. Plus, the brand’s eye cream feels like a balm, really rich, shiny, and comforting. I really like how it keeps the under eye super moisturized with concealer; $$$$ but only you need the tiniest amount.

According to my dermatologist, daily sunscreen is the most essential skin care and the crux of all anti-aging efforts. EltaMD UV Clear is my go-to light, blend-able sunscreen (with necessary zinc!) that doesn’t trigger breakouts. I panic when I run out, then buy two more.
Daisy Shaw-Ellis, jewelry director
I’ve been using SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence religiously morning and night, winter and summer for years now. It’s a lightweight serum (so much so it feels like water), doesn’t clog or irritate my fussy skin, is next to scentless, and works to give me a healthy glow with all the moisture I need in the summer and a trusty layer in the winter. (I always layer moisturizing products in the cold months, as one is never enough.) Although it’s got a hefty price tag, a bottle lasts me exactly a year—not something I can say often. I layer this weightless feeling SPF serum on top of the SK-II essence every day. I’ve always loved La Roche Posay’s Anthelios sunscreen and was excited when they came out with a serum product. It’s moisturizing, has antioxidants, and doesn’t leave any sort of sunscreen-y residue.
Taylor Anderson, associate social media manager
I’ve incorporated Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Minimizing Cleansing Clay Mask into my Sunday skin-care routine and I haven’t looked back since. It is the perfect product to make you feel refreshed and ready for the week ahead. After using, I can clearly see my pores minimized, leaving my skin refined and smooth.
Alexandra Gurvitch, creative development associate director
I love the Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask. I have been really honing in on my skin care because I feel like being stuck inside is the time to really work out problems, and this mask is my luxurious mainstay. I typically keep one in my desk at work and one in my travel bag because I love it so much.
Mai Morsch, editor
I have a few friends who swear by Jan Marini skin care, so when I saw the full system go on sale for Black Friday I decided to finally go for it. After just one use, my skin already looked more hydrated and glowing! I chose the dry/very dry combo which is perfect for sensitive winter skin. With this complete and effective system, I don’t think I’ll ever go back to using a random mix of products again.
Christian Allaire, fashion and style writer
I have dry skin, and in the fall-winter, it’s even worse—so Glow Recipe’s watermelon drops and Tatcha’s dewy skin cream have been my two hero skin-care items. Both boost the skin’s hydration and give me a luminous glow. I’ll also pat on Drunk Elephant’s luxury oil for even more shine—but any face oil would do! As for SPF, I really enjoy the Glowscreen by Supergoop. Can’t forget sunscreen!
Willow Lindley, fashion market and collaborations director
I can’t live without Naturopathica. The line has saved and continues to save my very sensitive and reactive skin. This white tea mask is a staple in my routine for added moisture or to calm any redness or inflammation. It’s magic: I put it on at night, go to sleep, wake up, and my face has self-soothed.
Naomi Elizée, market editor
The two skin-care lines that are heavy in my rotation are Dr. Barbara Sturm and Epi.logic by Dr. Jeanniton. I religiously use the Daily Dose vitamin C serum from Epi.logic to help with my hyperpigmentation, which I’ve struggled with for over 10 years now. I’ve been using it for about six months and have seen a major improvement in my dark spots and an evening out of my skin tone. My go-to product from Dr. Barbara Sturm is, hands down, the face cream from their Darker Skin Tones line. This moisturizer never feels too heavy or oily and gives my skin just the right amount of hydration it so desperately needs.
Jill Weiskopf, vice president of communications
I’m not exactly sure what to call this—a toner? a cleanser? a makeup remover? (I’ve used it for all of the above)—but I do know this refreshes my face, brightens my skin, and preps it for moisturizer and sunscreen like nothing else, with no irritation. It’s one of the very few items that I use to the last drop, and then re-stock immediately.
Mark Guiducci, creative editorial director
Like any good New Yorker, the only things in my refrigerator are a Brita water filter and iS Clinical moisturizer, recommended by facialist Cynthia Rivas. Thus concludes my skin care routine.
Kylee McGuigan, associate shopping producer
Having such fair skin, I’m always keen on keeping it protected while I’m out in the sun for a long time. As of recent, I was gifted the Supergoop Glowscreen, and I’m sold on it being a staple in my skin-care routine. Not only does it provide a nice glow on my face, but it applies incredibly well and is super buildable. It’s usually tough for me to find products that won’t irritate my sensitive skin, so I’m thrilled that this SPF has been working wonders for me so far.
Lucy Dolan-Zalaznick, creative development senior associate
If you don’t double cleanse or use a balm to remove your makeup: let me convert you. Makeup wipes were irritating my skin and eyes, and the oils left too much of a sticky residue, so I turned to Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. It starts off as a silky balm, turns into an oil on your skin, and then washes off like a facial cleanser, taking all the makeup and dirt with it. Bonus points for sustainability (no single-use wipes!) and if you put a little on a Q-tip you can precisely wipe away fall-out or stray mascara marks. And even if you don’t wear much makeup, beauty gurus say that washing your face without double cleansing is like showering with your clothes on. Converted yet? Also, if I had a dollar for every time someone has complimented my skin since using Jan Marini’s Bioglycolic Face Cleanser…I’d buy another bottle and give it to you. Holy grail glycolic acid-based cleanser that has totally retextured my skin.
Elise Taylor, senior living writer
I have to be careful what kind of skin-care products I use due to my perioral dermatitis—which means avoiding heavy moisturizers as well as any products with synthetic fragrances. Two of my go-tos? Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Face Cream light, which moisturizes without being overbearing, as well as clean beauty brand Oak Essential’s gentle restorative mask that’s made with honey and avocado oil.
Concetta Ciarlo, associate manager of events, Vogue Club
I love makeup, and low-maintenance is not in my vocabulary. I look for products that address my skin concerns without compromising the longevity of the contour that I spent 15 minutes painting on my face. I always come back to this Youth To The People moisturizer because its lightweight under my foundation and leaves my combination skin feeling silky. Plus, this vegan moisturizer already has hyaluronic acid in it, and takes at least one step out my beauty regimen!
Laura Jackson, shopping writer
Tower 28’s SOS Intensive Redness Relief Serum has quickly become a holy grail product in my skin-care routine. Since using it, my skin is noticeably clearer and softer to the touch—I’m obsessed!
Fabbiola Romain, associate visual editor
Recently, I learned the importance of sunscreen use every day, even when not exposed to the sun. I stumbled across Black Girl Sunscreen, which specifically caters to melanin skin and protects from hyperpigmentation and sun damage. I love how lightweight and gentle it goes on with no residue! Also, perfect under makeup! Now that’s Black Girl Magic!
Eliseé Browchuk, production and marketing manager of experiences
I always start my mornings with the Peter Thomas Roth hydra-gel eye patches. Not only do my under eye bags disappear, but their cooling effect instantly wakes me up without having to chug a cup of coffee. Next up, Freck Beauty’s moisturizer is my skin’s saving grace. Packed with vitamin C and cactus extract, the thick formula feels practically weightless and doesn’t clog my pores—a miracle!
Lilah Ramzi, senior features & shopping editor
My facialist Raquel at Joanna Czech (where skin miracles happen), instructed me to incorporate this gel into my regime as I have very redness-prone, sensitive skin. It feels great on and the ingredients—which include Green Tea, vitamin C and vitamin E—really help to even out my complexion. I’d consider it one of my best skin-care product discoveries. Thanks Raquel!
Clarissa Schmidt, shopping producer
I’ve declared 2023 as the year of my skin—I’ve made it a goal to invest in my skin-care regimen and the products that I incorporate into it. The one brand I’m obsessing over is Sunday Riley. My beauty counter is currently covered with the entire line, but if I had to choose a couple of favorites, it would be the U.F.O face oil and vitamin C serum. The two have done absolute wonders on my sensitive, acne-prone skin to combat imperfections and blemishes, whilst evening my skin tone and texture. It’s only been a few weeks since I started using them, and it already feels like I’m looking at a different person in the mirror each morning.
Chloe Malle, editor of Vogue.com
Once daylight savings kicks in and the temperatures drop it’s all about hydrating for my skincare routine. For my face, I rely on Mila Moursi Aromapure and love East Sound Lane’s Glow Oil. But as I get older I’m reminded skincare shouldn’t stop at your face! Marie Veronique’s new Body Barrier Emulsion and Face to Chest Hydration Mask is the most luxurious body lotion.
Julie Tong, shopping director
My skin-care routine is pretty simple, but once I find a product I love, I really hold onto it and use every last drop. I’m obsessed with Korean skin-care line Femmue— from their cleansers, masks, serums, and moisturizers, they are gentle on my skin and always leave it feeling fresh and glowing. (I’ll admit my mother is a big fan as well, especially of the Ideal Creme Riche and constantly asks for it as a birthday gift).
Laia Garcia-Furtado, senior fashion news editor
My friend Christy turned me on to May Lindstrom’s products. I started with “The Clean Dirt,” which I really loved, and have since tried a slew of her other products. My current favorite is “The Problem Solver,” which similarly to the Dirt, it’s a powder that you mix with water to make into a foam that you put on your face like a mask. Yes, it’s a little pricey but it truly lasts forever—as a matter of fact when the full-size jar I ordered arrived, my first thought was, “Perhaps this jar is too big?” I had a baby in January, so my skin has been going through it but I feel like this is really helping. I’ve been doing it three times a week now and I just always feel so good after!
Alexandra Michler, director of fashion initiatives
This may sound sort of left field, but I would have to say classic Dove bar soap is my all-time hero item. I never break out when I cleanse my face with Dove, and it is gentle enough to not strip my skin of moisture. My mother always recommended Dove soap to me, and it turns out she was right!
Samantha Ravin, creative development senior associate
I was recently introduced to the world of cleansing balm—I know, I’m late to the game—and it has become an absolute staple in my nightly routine. This one from Grace & Stella removes all of my makeup so easily and without any harsh scrubbing. After following it up with a cleanser, my face is left feeling super clean and moisturized. I’m proud to say the makeup wipe era has come to a long-overdue end!
Ciarra Lorren Zatorski, associate fashion editor
Finding the right skin care for my sensitive skin has never been my forté. Lost and overwhelmed in the endless sea of products, a skin-care regime was nonexistent until nearly a year ago when I discovered Pevonia’s products. They are now my tried and true beauty hacks that keep my skin both clean and refreshed no matter the day.
