Durham Regional Police said Katrina Zwolinski, 30, and her mother, Laurie Crew, 67, were found dead with obvious signs of trauma by officers after a wellness check at a home on Moulton Crt. at about 1 p.m. on Oct. 1.

Police said the child wasn’t injured.

Janice Miller, who started the GoFundMe fundraiser for the boy, said Crew was a close friend,“ as she was to many others for many years.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, on behalf of Laurie’s sisters, Cindy, Carol, and Jackie, due to the tragic and devasting passing of Laurie Crew and her daughter Katrina Zwolinski,” writes Miller.

“Their sudden departure has left an unfillable void in their family, and for the many lives they touched throughout the years. We cannot fully grasp the challenges ahead in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, but we know that the love and legacy of Laurie and Katrina will continue to shine through. Donations will be used to help the family provide Katrina’s son with a bright future and education.”

Cops later said Michael Belhu, 33, of no fixed address, who was charged with two counts of second degree murder in the slayings, was Zwolinski’s ex-boyfriend.

Neighbours told a Sun reporter at the scene that police have been to the home multiple times, allegedly to respond to arguments.

“Honestly, it’s really sad, a sad situation,” said Lucia. “Thought whatever was going on had been dealt with.”
