£2 item could provide relief if you suffer with restless legs

Restless legs syndrome, a common and highly irritating condition, affects millions worldwide. Also referred to as Willis-Ekbom disease by the NHS, they say it is a nervous system disorder that triggers an overpowering, uncontrollable urge to move the legs.

Not only is this condition extremely uncomfortable, but it can also disrupt sleep and cause a disturbing crawling or creeping sensation in the feet, calves, and thighs. This sensation often intensifies in the evening or at night and can even affect the arms.

Thankfully, there is one thing that can help – and you can get it for around £2 from your local supermarket. If you are struggling, Holland and Barrett have revealed that magnesium may actually give relief for restless legs. H&B nutritionist, Madalena Vieira Costa, explains: “Just like migraines, double the amount of women than men experience restless leg syndrome, with researchers suggesting that changing levels of oestrogen could be the culprit. This would explain why it can be more common in middle age and pregnant women.”

It adds: “A small study showed that magnesium and vitamin B6 could help reduce symptoms and improve sleep quality within two months. This might be down to magnesium’s role in the nervous system and muscle function,” says Madalena. It could also be the reason why so many social-media videos talk about rubbing magnesium on your feet or legs.”

You can pick up the ASDA Magnesium 375mg Wellbeing Tablets 1 A Day for just £2 – and other stores may have it even cheaper. They do however caution that if you are pregnant and want to try magnesium for restless legs, you need to speak to your GP first as they can advise whether it’s safe and suggest the right dose for you.”
