10 Years In, Amal Clooney Still Channels Bridal Fashion for Date Night

Amal Clooney may be approaching a decade of marriage to her husband George, but that won’t stop her from enjoying some fabulous bridal fashions.

Last night, the human rights lawyer and actor arrived by boat for dinner at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como, where the couple dressed as if they’d just renewed their vows in an intimate beach ceremony. When it comes to her vacation style, vintage acolyte Clooney is usually liable to pull a rare Versace or John Galliano-era Christian Dior piece from her impressive archive. Last night’s dress, however, was one from the very recent past: 2023 to be exact. The barrister wore a piece from Chanel’s resort 2023 collection by Virginie Viard.

The white crocheted maxi dress features alternating panels of open and closed stitches. While it could be dressed down given its pockets and beachy material, it leans dressier thanks to its silver sequins. Clooney chose to dress her Chanel number up further, accessorizing with large silver statement earrings and strappy metallic silver heels. Either way, the versatile dress is something that could work just as well for a beach wedding, a quick elopement, or even a wedding weekend welcome reception. (George, for his part, fit all of those briefs in a lightweight tan suit and white button-down.)

Maybe it’s something about the Grand Hotel Tremezzo that brings out Amal Clooney’s inner blushing bride. In July 2023, when the pair visited the same Lake Como spot, she donned a romantic white slip dress lined with ruffles from John Galliano’s spring 1999 collection for Dior. Can you really blame her for leaning into the romance? If we were enjoying an Italian vacation, we’d probably want to get married over and over again, too. Or, at least, dress the part.
