Alex Hourigan, from Sydney, explained how your face can look a little different in selfies than it does reflected in a mirror because the phone’s front-facing camera automatically flips – or inverts – the picture.

“You know how you take a really good selfie on your camera? Then when you go in your photo gallery and you’re like, ‘Why do I look like Shrek? Why do I look like dirt?’” Alex told her co-host of Two Broke Chicks, Sally McMullen, on their podcast.

“It’s because your photos become inverted.

“There’s a hack to take really ‘hot selfies’.”

All you need to do is go into your Camera settings, then switch on “Mirror Front Camera”.

“It’ll keep the photo how you see it on your front camera as you take a picture,” Alex said.

“BRB off to go take some selfies.”

The video has been viewed more than 155,000 times – with many saying they had no idea the feature existed.

“The way I raced to my phone to fact check. Omg, I never noticed that the phone did that. Have changed my settings now! Thanks ladies,” one said.

One shared: “BRB going to take a million selfies now. Life changing.”

Another joked: “Thanks I always look like Shrek. Hope this tip works!”

While one added: “This is amazing!”
