Tata Motors reshuffles key executives in passenger vehicle business

Tata Motors has undertaken organisational restructuring of its passenger vehicle business as part of its plan to take Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle (TMPV) and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) to the next level of growth.

Shailesh Chandra, managing director of TMPV and TPEM, announced the changes in an internal circular to the employees on January 2.

As part of the changes, Amit Kamat, general manager of the passenger vehicle business, has been elevated to chief commercial officer, TMPV. In his new role, he will oversee marketing, brand and customer experience for the fossil fuel-based business. All the operational heads directly responsible for these functions will report to him.

Vivek Srivatsa, head of commercial at TPEM, has been promoted as chief commercial officer. Both Kamat and Srivatsa will be reporting to Chandra.

The changes come ahead of a flurry of launches of fossil-fuel based and battery-operated vehicles planned over the next 16 months. In addition to launching the facelifts of some of the existing internal combustion engine models, the company is looking to add at least three new models to its electric vehicle (EV) line-up.

“The idea is to optimise the human resources across both the entities so that the company can drive the business at an accelerated pace in a more efficient manner,” a person aware of the matter said on condition of anonymity. Many of the executives will have dual roles under the new structure. For instance, in order to bring in customer-centric growth and drive synergies between the customer care and product development teams for EVs, Amit Goel, general manager, customer care for EVs, will be reporting to Anand Kulkarni, chief product officer TPEM, as well as working with Srivatsa on enhancing customer care for EVs.Similarly, Tata Motors has appointed Nitin Mehta as head of network management. In addition to managing the TPMV network, he will be working with Srivatsa on EV exclusive showroom development.

Last month TPEM announced its plan to set up exclusive showrooms for EVs to handle increasing electric vehicle sales. Tata Motors is likely to open 50-100 EV-exclusive stores in the next 12-18 months across key markets.
